This lullaby on undisclosed sounds is meant to put us closer to our wrong pre- assumptions: fishes are everything but mute ((“mute as a fish”)), but also the term “fish”,&nbsp; scientifically speaking (as a taxonomy), is meaningless. “Fish do not exist yet they sing in my dreams” is a sound wave travel in time: by retracing the story of the noun “Fish”, to the sound of the “slow” Barramunda (Neoceratodus forsteri), the living fossil fish that has not changed his physiognomy in 380 million years, now in the red list of IUCN Threated Species. As sound travels below the barriers of human-classification, terminology and time, this sonic landscape immerse you in a chorus that is constantly happening, below our eyes and ears, since before our appearance on planet Earth. Transcription of Record: “Fish” is an umbrella term for a mostly aquatic vertebrate that is not a mammal, bird, or anything else. Putting together these vertebrates belonging to different and not closely related groups would be like grouping together all flying vertebrates, such as birds, bats, some species of squirrels and so on, defining them in the same way simply because they fly. The degree of relatedness between a shark and a lamprey is no closer than that between a camel and a salamander. We commonly call more than half of the species of vertebrate animals existing on Earth today "fish", and we do so because we identify relatively common characteristics between the various species: they seem so similar to us that they fall into the same large group. In our imagination a fish has a shape that is more or less always the same, narrow and elongated, with scales and fins for swimming in the water. Most of the thousands of species of these animals have a well-defined skeleton, an easily distinguishable skull and jaws. They also have fins supported by jointed bony elements ("rays") and for this reason they are called "ray-finned fish" or actinopterygians, from the ancient Greek πτέρυξ (wing, fin) and from actino-, meaning equipped with rays. In the long history of evolution, these animals have undergone important modifications with clearly separate histories, such that they cannot all be classified with the same definition as "fish". To get a better idea, you need to go back in time about 500 million years, when these animals began to populate the large bodies of water on Earth. They were the first to develop a backbone and a skull, a process that took a long time, if compared for example to the existence of our species which dates back only a hundred thousand years ago. Even today there are some species that remind us in a certain sense of where we come from. The barramunda (Neoceratodus forsteri) is typical of an area of Queensland in Australia and is defined as a "living fossil", because its appearance and characteristics have not changed for at least 380 million years. This means that even today we can observe what a species looked like which in his case contributed to the appearance of amphibians. While we scroll our feeds, while we wave and flap our wings thinking that we are unnoticed, unrelenting processes of slow violence are making our ecosystems fade away.“In chaos theory, the butterfly effect is the sensitive dependence on initial conditions in which a small change in one state of a deterministic nonlinear system can result in large differences in a later state.The term is closely associated with the work of mathematician and meteorologist Edward Norton Lorenz. He noted that the butterfly effect is derived from the metaphorical example of the details of a tornado (the exact time of formation, the exact path taken) being influenced by minor perturbations such as a distant butterfly flapping its wings several weeks earlier. By touching water, field recordings of disappeared landscapes are triggered.The composition will be ever changing, a collection of broken fragments found from Radio Aporee’s library of field recordings all over the world. Every track is linked to a landscape (forests, lakes, shores, land) that disappeared in the last 10 years, due to climate change. I collected these field recordings as a non-linear and broken archive of sonic fragments without order, as real landscape are disappearing faster than their digital traces.This dispirited and disrupted archive, collecting field recordings of ghost landscapes, is an unfinished business that retraces a slow violence (R.Nixon,2011) that lays under our eyes, and yet do not escapes our ears.The Playtron acts like an electronic octopus that makes all these fragments of lost echoes available to human touch. Through interactive group experiences, the human and non-human voices of the water bodies will come together in a performative moment. The Water Bodies Orchestra has be rehearsed and performed for the first time at the opening ceremony of the Confluence of European Water Bodies, 3 October 2024 inside San Lorenzo Church at Ocean Space Venice, in collaboration with Venice Climate Change Pavilion. For the concept development and production, the Embassy of the North Sea, on behalf of the Confluence of European Water Bodies, works with director Steye Hallema. Harpo ‘t Hart (Embassy of the North Sea) is involved as sound artist and curator of the project. The soundscapes are recorded by the participating water bodies of Europe. The first orchestra has been co-curated and designed with Letizia Artioli (Venice Climate Change Pavilion). Current laws and policies cannot stop the loss of biodiversity or the poisoning of soils, lands, waters and air, because they are grounded in the fiction of the natural world as property or ‘resources’ for human desires. Born out of growing water challenges and demands for water democracy worldwide, the Confluence of European Water Bodies sprang from a collective pursuit of a deeper understanding of the ‘Rights of Nature’ in Europe. As a growing community of care and concern, the Confluence of European Water Bodies aims to foster new dialogues and relationships with water. As a learning system for water diplomacy, new strategies for effectively representing water in Europe's cultural, legal and political realms are being explored, rehearsed and advocated. Participating Water BodiesThe 2024 edition welcomes a wide variety of water bodies: Baltic Sea, Doggerbank, Drina, Genova waters, Klarälven, Loire, Mar Menor, Mediterranean Sea, North Sea, Ouse, Oslo Fjord, Pek, Piave, Reuss, Rhône, Snæfellsjökul, Spree, Tara, Tejo, Vättern, Venice Lagoon, Viskan, Vistula, Wattenmeer and Zenne. Representing the Whanganui River in New Zealand, the world's first ecosystem with legal personhood, Maori elder Erena Rhose will share insights on the Maori worldview in which the river is recognised as a living ancestor. Also representatives from the saltwater lagoon the Mar Menor will participate. La ricerca ha evidenziato che entro l'anno 1500 tra il 7,5 e il 13 per cento dei 2 milioni di specie conosciute sarebbero scomparse dal nostro pianeta. Ma, come ESSERI UMANI, siamo consapevoli dell'ecosistema lagunare di cui facciamo parte? Il progetto newyorkese MakeUsVisible arriva a Venezia per mostrare e dare voce alla biodiversità con cui condividiamo l'ecosistema Lagunare. The Venice Climate Change Pavilion made CE002, the Climate Entity 002 “You are a Butterfly until you don't flap your wings”, as a tool available to participants and all guests, human and otherwise, to compose a third soundscape composed of the echoes of landscapes that have disappeared in the last 10 years due to climate change.This type of data physicalization is one of the experimental way to make human beings experience the ongoing “slow-violence”(Nixon,2013) that our ears cannot perceive. While we live in cities during a day/week/month time-scale, entire ecosystems and landcsapes disappears under our eyes. Planet Earth “The Shifting Sands of Reflection” is an AR sculpture created by the Venice Climate Change Pavilion specifically inspired by Camila Le-Bert's play "Mirror Mirror." This digital art piece spotlights sand as a symbol of climate migration and social inequality. As the play expands in the dunes, the digital sculpture floats above, refracting, reflecting and dimmering the existing landscape of Dune Alberoni. Using a 3D macro-photogrammetry of sand grains, the sculpture creates a third landscape made of mirrored images from the play, where characters are suspended on sandy shores, eat sand-covered berries, and thirst for freshwater. Sand, the essential matter for both skyscrapers and mirrors, becomes a metaphor.Each rotating sand grain refracts light, forming a mesmerizing floating dance. This embodies the ever-changing paradigm akin to life's unpredictability. “In shifting sands” in an idiom that reflects adaptability amidst life's uncertainties, emphasizing change as the only constant. Cambiamenti di Rotta- Climate Change Theater Action 2023 Sunday 24 September 2023 from 10:00am / Oasi WWF Dune Alberoni The World Festival of Theater against Climate Change: Climate Change Theater Action, launched in 2015 in New York and held every two years, has involved, in its past editions, thousands of artists who have created initiatives in every part of the world. This year the fifth edition, inaugurated on 17 September, and also in Venice Cambiamenti di Rotta – CCTA 2023 curated by Giovanni E. Morassutti, offers an interdisciplinary event scheduled for 24 September which includes various proposals: sustainable maritime mobility transport on electric boats, art, music and interventions between digital art and science at the Dune degli Alberoni Oasis on the Lido of Venice, a natural environment rich in biodiversity managed by the WWF Venice and Territory on behalf of the Municipality of Venice. The beating heart of the event is the staging on the beach of the play mirror mirror written by Camila Le-Bert and directed by Giovanni E.
